Born in Glasgow on June 7, 1868 Charles Rennie Mackintosh trained as an architect in a local practice and studied art and design at evening classes at the Glasgow School of Art.

The name of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who has been described as “a genius ahead of his time”, is now seen as synonymous with the Art Nouveau movement.

Why does Stickley make furniture designed by inspiration of Charles Rennie Mackintosh?

Stickley recognizes the influence of Mackintosh in the foundation of English Arts and Crafts Movement in the same way Gustav Stickley did.  Therefore we create designs based on his originals.

Here is an example of the special carving typical of Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs for Stickley.  The original would have taken around 8 hours to complete.
